A paltry collection of

 bits and pieces with no

 particular theme except

that they interest me.

Musings on a Quiet Band

CQ DX - this voice doth cry

Without one answer bye and bye.

So little from the void comes forth;

The bands are dead today - of course.

One wonders, “Would it be this bad

When mortal coil has passed?” - So sad!

Or would a limitless span await

When one has passed that 'Pearly Gate'.

Then I could work the universe

And signals from the stars observe.

Those planetary nets I’d love to try

With Martians, Vegans, standing by.

And I’d use my rig of many a watt

With tubes that glow and run red-hot;

To warm the shack and toast my soul

With easy power from a large black hole.

With so much room to play around

Large antennas would for sure be found,

And from their comparison I’d never tire

Of ‘Photon Loop’ and ‘Sky-High Wire’.

Such magazines would there be to read

With favourite topics at just my speed.

And what a set of ads there’d be

With all the latest rigs for free.

Are these but just my dreams - Alas!

Or will this future come to pass?

Yet it's within the realm of dreams

That Paradise affords such schemes.

So I’ll hook my feeder to a star

And follow it both near and far;

And long-time when my day doth come

Perhaps my log will say “Twas Fun”.

- Some Small PIC Projects -

Morse Receiving Practice Aid (PIC18F1320/30)  -  A stand-alone device that I used as a way of learning the C-programming language for PICs. I hope that it will be of use to those teaching themselves Morse; a mode of transmission far from dead.

HF Marker Generator  -  This provides separate 100, 25 and 10kHz harmonic outputs when driven by an inexpensive 8MHz computer crystal.

Divide-by-1,000  -  A small project showing that a PIC may be used as a synchronous divider for certain ratios. Much simpler than the multiple counters often used in a 10kHz referenced GPSDOs.

ADF4110 Lock Box  -  A demonstration of a BASIC programmed, 10MHz referenced, phase-locked stabilizer for VHF crystal oscillators using freely available software tools. Please note - the prototype was developed over four years ago and I no longer have the board to help with answering questions.

This, That and the Other

Miscellaneous Sites  -  Some well known; others perhaps less so.

Of Cabbages and Kings  -  Trivia that has nowhere else to go. Please excuse any nonsense therein as I very slowly build-up this collection of nothing-in-particular.

“Now I know there is another Watt in here somewhere!”.

++++++++++++++++++

Altered slightly from a

sketch by Mike James.

Further ‘Ham Radio’ Verses I & II -  All composed in idle moments. It seems a shame to waste them but in retrospect that may not have been such a bad idea.

There is an entirely spurious G3LLV ‘seller’ on the web that I have absolutely nothing to-do with.
